The 5thAnnual EITI Global Conference, “Transparency Counts”, saw around 1000 leaders from governments, companies, civil society as well as international organizations and academia gathering in Paris to discuss the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. The question of how to broaden the discussion from transparency to wider governance of extractives received a great deal of attention and the Natural Resource Charter was referred to as the right next step by the President of the African Development Bank and the Minister of Finance of South Africa.
